West Carroll Primary School

Teachers, Kris Yingling, Becky Atherton and Travis Hartman, from the West Carroll Primary School in Savanna, IL came to the airport early Tuesday morning before flight #53 took off for DC to present Honor Flight board members, Stephen Garrington and Margie Hansen, with a check for $3,682. Money was raised at a Bike-A-Thon Fundraiser put on by the 4th grade class. Thank you for helping us send more veterans on honor flights!

Honor Flight of the Quad Cities Resuming Flights

Honor Flight of the Quad Cities is happy to announce the resumption of Honor Flights to Washington DC so that veterans who served during our conflicts may visit the monuments built in their honor.

The next flight is planned for Thursday, November 4, 2021 and will be named the Bob Morrison Memorial Flight in honor of the late founder of Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.

Volunteers will call those eligible to go.  Health and safety will be of prime importance. At this time, only those Veterans and Guardians who have been fully vaccinated will be on the flight. Those not vaccinated will be taken on a later flight.

Masks will be worn by all participants whenever they are indoors.

At the end of the day (about 10 p.m.), the Veterans will return to the Quad City International Airport. The public is invited to come to the airport and give the veterans a warm reception and welcome home.

Those interested in going on a flight as a Guardian that are capable of caring for and assisting Veterans, including those that may be in a wheelchair, may fill out an application available at Application Forms page.

Applications for veterans who served during WWII, Korea, or Vietnam can also be found on the  Application Forms page.  Veterans and guardians will be called in the order their applications are received.  The waiting period may be a couple of years.  We encourage all to apply now to get their names on the lists.

Honoring Art Petersen – 1928 – 2021 (age 92)

We at Honor Flight of the Quad Cities were saddened more than you can know, to hear of the passing of our dear friend Art. We are thankful for his selfless contribution of time and effort to support Honor Flight. His passing has left an empty space that we will never be able to entirely fill. As a Vet who defended our nation, it was our privilege to have him as one of our 5,000 honored veterans on an Honor Flight. But of course he was such a part of all of our 50 flights in so many ways.

We are also thankful for his family and friends, who supported him before, during, and after his military service. A wise person once said: “Those who put on the uniform are our knights of old, and our heroes of today, and our hope for the future.”

Visitation for Art Petersen will be Thursday, April 29 from 4 to 6 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries funeral home — View his full obituary — Art Petersen Obituary.
